Waste Update # 1 - 'Last Orders!'

Hey Beautiful People,

Just thought I'd stop by to let you guys know the latest on what's happening with the 'WasteMan - The Movie!’ project.

We held first round auditions on 18/19 April and what a crazy couple of days they were! From people who think a WasteMan is a refuse collector, to those who believe WasteMen are simply one type of demographic - in one country, to women who are living with deep WasteMan inflicted scars who tried to murder our temporary WasteMan, Dúbb'l yoo T, it was an emotional, eventful two days!! (For those of you who are worried, it's okay, the deep tissue scars around Dúbb's neck are fading now...finally!)

We’ve short-listed some fantastically realistic ‘Baby-Mothers’ and have successfully cast 3 WasteMen, plus a few of the other core characters. The next stage in the process is to cast the remaining characters, which includes the following:

WasteMan x 3 Male (Age Appearance: 30) White/Caucasian
WasteMan’s Baby Mother x 1 Female (Age Appearance: 30) White/Caucasian
WasteMan’s Daughter x 1 Female (Age Appearance: 4) Black
‘Video Chicks’ x 6 Female (Age Appearance: varied)
‘Jurors’ x 5 Male (Age Appearance & Ethnicity: varied)
‘Jurors’ x 7 Female (Age Appearance & Ethnicity: varied)

Please note that ‘WasteMan – The Movie!’ will be a short film, not a feature length movie and is based on the poem ‘WasteMan’ (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/topic.php?uid=82441321538&topic=24826)

Everyone who auditions will be expected to enact a scene from the poem or similar scenario. They will also need to be available for rehearsals during May and filming during June 2009 (full schedule details to be confirmed at a later date). So, if you know anyone who’ll be interested in auditioning, I ask again, please direct them to this information :-) Your help will be most appreciated.

'Wasteman - The Movie!' Synopsis

Aspiring to be a successful Emcee, 30 year old Darren Thompson lives a comedy faux bling lifestyle adorned with big dreams, false hope and a façade of stunning girls, jewellery, flash cars, designer clothes and copious amounts of alcohol. The stark reality is that he lives with his Mum (sharing a bedroom with his younger Brother), has only ever had one job and treats Fatherhood as an occasional pastime! Follow Emcee Grind in 'WasteMan – The Movie!', the hilarious journey of a poor excuse for a man with no sense of responsibility, respect for women or an inkling of what it means to be a man.

Characteristics of a WasteMan...

Offering to take a woman out to dinner for a slap up meal, only to then take her to a local Nando’s, McDonalds, Burger King or KFC, and then act like she’s ungrateful when she expresses her disdain! It’s 2009 – if you can’t afford to take her somewhere with more class than a glorified takeaway, try and cook instead, the effort will go a long way!
Only calling people on the same mobile phone network as him. Yes we understand that cross network minutes can be expensive, but do you have to ask “What network are you on?!” before a woman has even finished giving you her number?!
Selling drugs to everyone and anyone who will buy them, before proclaiming that they aren’t “really drugs” and that if he doesn’t sell them, “someone else will! – it’s a dog eat dog world out ‘ere, get me?!” Erm.. no, we don’t get you – get a proper job!
Walking up and down ‘on road’ all the time, with no ultimate destination, except to stop OUTSIDE the Barbers, the Betting Shop, the Off Licence or the Jobcentre – all with the purpose of chatting up women. Then they wonder why women look disgusted!
Not spending any quality time with his child(ren) because he has ‘runnings’ or other ‘important’ things to do. Your child(ren) will remember all the times you weren’t there for them…
Still living at home over the age of 30 with no intention to leave! It’s not cool and it’s not sexy – fix up!
Spending all of his money on himself and his ‘vices’ but not being able to provide for his child(ren)
Being a Dad to many children for many different women, but not being a Father to any of them. Turning up to give a child a card and a Woolworths gift voucher once a year does not count (furthermore, Woolworths is no more!)
Being over 25 years old, and spending all of his time aspiring to be the next top MC/Rapper – having been doing this for the past ten years. If it hasn’t happened already, it’s safe to say it’s not going to!
Being over 20 years old, but not aspiring to do anything constructive with his life, including, but not limited to, not working and not studying. Graduating as a student of the University of Life is not an adequate qualification!
Driving a top of the range car, but only being able to put £5 or £10 worth of petrol in it at any given time. You look like a plum at the petrol station with a 2.0 litre engine and only five litres of petrol to keep it running!
Being officially unemployed but still driving a top of the range car which he can barely afford. No, you don’t look cool, and the car can’t make up for your lack of sense, style or sophistication!

Meet the Writers - Comfort and Dúbbl yoo T

COMFORT:

Comfort is a Writer, Spoken Word Artist and PR, Events/Marketing Professional from London.
Upon discovering her love of words at a very young age, and subsequently studying Journalism and Media Studies, Comfort often found herself playing with words to create erotica and very short stories as a pastime to entertain herself during the mundane routine of her 9-5. Her transition from written stories to the spoken word was initially sparked by her outrage and frustration at the alarming rise of violent crime amongst young people within the UK, coupled with the general mis-education of children and young people within her community, leading her to embark upon her poetry journey in July 2007.

DÚBBL YOO T:

Dúbbl yoo T, pronounced WT, is a fresh new Writer and Presenter from London.

Upon his discovery that the added frustration of working 9-5 was teamed with the 24 hour challenge of severe dyslexia, Dúbb'l yoo T decided to re-trace his artistic background (which includes Theatre, tracking vocals to songs and Presenting/Hosting events) and use it to shape his future vision.

Together, they have collaborated to bring you, Wasteman, The Movie! We hope you enjoy the journey…
